F.M.I. may alter show formats, rotate venues

CHICAGO — The Food Marketing Institute is considering alternating the formats to its annual F.M.I. Show. One potential change involves focusing on an education format, and not an exhibit format, one year and focusing on the traditional exhibit format the next year. Another potential change could involve rotating the venue. The show traditionally has taken place at the McCormick Place in Chicago.

The 2007 F.M.I. Show will go on as scheduled in Chicago. The changes, recommended by the F.M.I. board’s long range planning committee, would begin in 2008 when the event would entail an expanded education forum.

In 2009, if the committee’s recommendations are enacted, the event would entail an exhibit format showcasing traditional and unique products and services. Marketechnics would continue to be part of the exhibit format.

"F.M.I.’s board will give keen consideration to the proposal of our long range planning committee, which has spent the last year developing this new approach to meet the needs of F.M.I. members in the future," said Jeff Noddle, chairman of the F.M.I. board of directors.
