COLUMBIA, MD. — WhiteWave Foods Co., a Dean Foods’ subsidiary, will launch organic milk containing DHA omega-3 through the company’s Horizon Organic brand in mid-2007.

The launch is made possible through an agreement with Martek Biosciences Corp., which produces life’sDHA. Martek’s product is derived from a sustainable and vegetarian source.

WhiteWave also will launch Rachel’s natural yogurt, which also contains DHA.

"DHA is an ingredient that has been shown to provide important health benefits in young children and across the lifecycle … we look forward to the impact of this ingredient in enhancing our product offerings and once again pioneering our business into new arenas," said Joseph Scalzo, president and chief executive officer of WhiteWave.

The terms of the 15-year agreement include Dean Foods and WhiteWave agreeing to purchase from Martek all DHA omega-3’s needed for their products in the U.S. and other specific territories. The companies already had a 2006 agreement through which WhiteWave Foods uses life’sDHA in Silk Plus DHA.
