OMAHA — Plans for the construction of a 1.7-million-bu grain-handling facility in Holdrege, Neb., have been announced by The Scoular Co. The unit will bring to 13 the number of Scoular grain facilities in Nebraska.

The Holdrege facility, located in south central Nebraska about 30 miles north of the Kansas border, will be opened this fall. Scoular already has opened a grain merchandising office in Holdrege, and Dean Jones has been named office manager and merchandiser.

According to Scoular, the facility, which will be served by the Nebraska, Kansas & Colorado Railway, will be "well-positioned to provide a competitive market for local area producers and to meet the corn demand of ethanol plants and feedlots in central and western Nebraska and eastern Colorado.

Scoular is a minority investor in ethanol plants in Sterling and Yuma, Colo., and has procurement agreements for plants in Madrid and Cambridge, Neb.
