DUBLIN, OHIO — Same-store sales at Wendy’s International, Inc. rose 0.7% at company-owned stores and 0.4% at franchised locations in the second quarter ended July 1. The results were not as strong as those achieved during the first quarter, said Kerrii Anderson, interim chief executive officer, but do position the company to produce profit expansion in the future.

"We’ve now delivered 13 consecutive months of positive same-store sales," Ms. Anderson said. "We built on positive sales a year ago and lapped our highest unit volumes of 2006 in June. Our menu management strategy, new products, and improving marketing and restaurant operations have enabled us to continue our momentum."

During the third quarter, Wendy’s said it will begin promoting its new Baconator, a premium hamburger that features six strips of bacon, 1/2 lb of beef, American cheese, ketchup and mayonnaise. The launch of the Baconator follows up on the company’s June roll out of the $1.99 Triple Stack cheeseburger, which features three stacks of beef layered with melted American cheese.
