Wilson to succeed Lawless at McCormick & Company

SPARKS, MD. — The board of directors of McCormick & Company, Inc. has elected Alan D. Wilson president and chief executive officer, effective Jan. 1, 2008. He will succeed Robert J. Lawless, who will retire as c.e.o. but will continue as chairman of the board.

Mr. Wilson, 49, joined the company in 1993. During his 14-year career with McCormick, Mr. Wilson has held numerous positions, including president, Tubed Products, Inc., president, McCormick Canada and president - North American Consumer Foods and Supply Chain. Most recently he has been president and chief operating officer since December 2006. He is a member of the Chairman’s Advisory Council of the Grocery Manufacturers Association.

"Alan brings to this role a great diversity of experience in general management and supply chain," Mr. Lawless said. "He has been involved in key aspects of McCormick’s international and domestic operations. He has demonstrated leadership in each position he has held and is respected throughout the company for his ability to set direction, make the right decisions and manage complexity."

Mr. Lawless, 60, spent 30 years with McCormick, including the past 10 as c.e.o. Under his leadership, McCormick has grown significantly, with sales rising to nearly $3 billion from $1.7 billion in 1996. Meanwhile, the company’s market capitalization has more than doubled during that time.
