Caroline's Desserts introduces shortbreads

REDMOND, WASH. — Caroline’s Desserts, a maker of handmade gourmet desserts using all-natural ingredients, recently introduced a line of shortbreads. The shortbreads are all-natural, kosher and come in such flavors as cranberry, chocolate chip espresso, maple walnut, chocolate dipped traditional, ginger, chocolate spice and orange pecan.

"We’re very pleased with the initial consumer response to our new shortbreads," said Susana Ortiz, co-founder and chief executive officer. "We recently test marketed them to consumers attending an annual charity fundraiser, Cookie Fest, hosted by Macy’s, and sold out the product we had on hand in record time."

In addition to shortbreads, Caroline’s Desserts makes handmade Krispettes — crisp rice cereal squares consisting of premium gourmet ingredients such as organic brown rice cereal, chocolate, fruits and nuts. Krispettes are available in 17 flavors. The company also offers seasonally-themed sugar cookies.

With the addition of the shortbreads line of products, Caroline’s Desserts expects to transition to a larger production facility in 2008.

"In 2007, we saw sales increase by more than 1,000% using a self-distribution model," Ms. Ortiz said. "In 2008, we’ll expand our markets via partnerships with distributors on both the East and West coasts, and continued direct sales."
