VEVEY, SWITZERLAND — Partly due to strong results in the food and beverage business, for the first nine months of 2008 Nestle had sales of 81,362 million Swiss francs ($69,668 million), up 3.4% from 78,711 million Swiss francs during the same period of the previous year.

Food and Beverages had 8.9% organic growth and 3% internal growth. Zone Americas had sales of 23,751 million Swiss francs ($20,346 million) with organic growth of 10.7%. Nestle Waters had sales of 7,591 million Swiss francs ($6,503 million) with organic growth down 1%, and Nestle Nutrition had sales of 7,802 million Swiss francs ($6,684 million) with organic growth up 9.6%.

"These record sales in the first nine months reflect strong growth momentum in both the developing and the developed world," said Paul Bulcke, Nestle chief executive officer. "The Group’s brands hold leadership positions in dynamic categories and will continue to deliver profitable growth on the back of our nutrition, health and wellness strategy."

Nestle said it expects organic growth of about 8% for the full year.
