Saputo closes Vermont facility

MONTREAL — Saputo, Inc. announced it is closing a cheese manufacturing plant in Hinesburg, Vt., as the facility was damaged by a fire on Sept. 29.

Since the fire, production has been transferred to other Saputo facilities in the United States, and the official closing date is Oct. 22. The costs related to the closing will be about $5.4 million after taxes, and mainly will be recorded in the fiscal 2009 third quarter. Annual savings will be about $2.2 million starting at the beginning of fiscal 2010.
