TORONTO — SunOpta Grains and Foods Group has signed an agreement to distribute the Daabon Organic USA Inc. product line of organic shortenings, stearins and olein produced under the FreshPress brand. The ingredients are made from palm oil and sold primarily to the bakery industry for use in such products as cookies, bread, muffins and pastries. The ingredients are expected to add about $2 million in revenues in 2009.

SunOpta Inc., Brampton, Ont., is the parent company of SunOpta Grains and Foods Group, Hope, Minn.

SunOpta also provided an update on its joint venture with Colorado Mills, Lamar, Colo., to develop a 35-million lb oilseed refinery focused on expeller-pressed, trans-fat-free sunflower oil and soy products. Operations should begin in the spring of 2009. Additional capacity is expected to bring annual revenues of about $10 million.
