YoCream earnings fall 6% in first quarter

PORTLAND, ORE. — Earnings at YoCream International, Inc. fell 6% in the first quarter of fiscal 2010, while sales rose 7%. Net income in the period ended Jan. 31 totaled $901,690, equal to 35c per share on the common stock, down from $954,567, or 42c per share, in the same period a year ago. Sales totaled $9,214,465, up from $8,641,900.

YoCream said frozen yogurt sales to the general food service market grew at a 31% clip, while frozen beverage category sales rose 5%.

The company said it expects further growth in frozen beverages with customer commitments to newer flavors such as Ice Breakers Sugar Free Berry Splash and Peach Dragonfruit. In addition, new Jolly Rancher flavors such as Tropical Tremor Pomegranate, Mango, Sour Green Apple and Wild Berry will complement sales of the core Jolly Rancher Watermelon and Green Apple flavors.
