CARPINTERIA, CALIF. — CKE Restaurants, Inc. has opened its first Carl’s Jr. restaurant in Canada through the Jove Franchise Development Corp.

The new restaurant is in Kelowna, B.C., and is one of five Carl’s Jr. restaurants Jove plans to open and operate in Canada. In addition, CKE plans to open additional restaurants in Canada in coming years.

“We are very pleased to welcome Jove Franchise Development Corp. to the Carl’s Jr. franchise family,” said Andrew F. Puzder, chief executive officer of CKE Restaurants, Inc. “With our longstanding history of successfully operating the Carl’s Jr. brand in the Western United States, it was a natural progression to open the brand in Western Canada. We are confident the strength of our brand combined with Jove’s management expertise and passion for our brand will secure a bright future for Carl’s Jr. in the Canadian market.”

The efforts in Canada are part of a plan to double CKE’s international presence to more than 700 restaurants within five years.
