NORTHFIELD, ILL. — Kraft Foods Inc. said it is lowering coffee prices on its Maxwell House and Yuban brands in the United States by about 6%. The price change, which does not include Gevalia, Tassimo and the Maxwell House International line of specialty soluble beverages, comes a week after J.M. Smucker Co. announced a similar reduction in its Dunkin’ Donuts, Folgers and Folgers Gourmet Selections lines.

According to Kraft, the price cut translates to 20c per lb on roast and ground coffees and 2c per oz on instant coffees.

“We evaluate the various market factors and make our pricing decisions when we feel it’s appropriate for the business,” said Bridget MacConnell, a spokeswoman for Kraft.
