New Nutrition Business identifies food trends for '07

LONDON — New Nutrition Business has published its annual review, "Ten Key Trends in Food, Nutrition & Health," identifying the top food trends for 2007. Published by The Centre for Food & Health Studies, a London-based business specializing in researching, analyzing and forecasting developments in the business of food, nutrition and health, New Nutrition Business’ annual report analyzes the effect that key trends will have on company strategies.

The key trends identified are as follows:

• A future of weight-management.

• Mood Food – brain health, mood and performance to be the next big trend.

• Healthy snacking – pigs might fly as the boundaries between health, convenience and indulgence break down.

• Fruit: the future of functional foods.

• Digestive health still has far to run.

• Children’s nutrition: Brains, bowels, naturalness and healthy snacking.

• We’re all turning Japanese.

• Beauty from within – a marketing trend with many angles and wrinkles.

• The marketing power of "naturally healthy."

• Functional foods and health – who really gets the benefits?

The publication also has released a report titled "Five Key Trends in Kids Nutrition." It identifies the following trends as the keys to success in the $30 billion children’s nutrition market:

• Free-from and natural is the future of children’s food.

• Healthy snacking – the boundaries between health, convenience and indulgence break down.

• Better brains with omega-3.

• Fiber and probiotics for better bowels.

• It’s all about beverages.
