RONKONKOMA, N.Y. — CoolBrands International Inc. has created new Breyers Light! Probiotics Plus Yogurt. The new recipe for the brand’s light yogurt features enhanced probiotics, beneficial bacteria normally found in the body that may assist with digestion or help protect against harmful bacteria.

The new Breyers Light! Probiotics Plus Yogurt provides an added dose of the live, active yogurt cultures that have been shown to promote overall good health of the digestive tract. Research suggests that friendly probiotic bacteria, such as those found in Breyers Light! Probiotics Plus Yogurt, may aid digestion and boost immunity. Breyers Light! Probiotics Plus Yogurt contains Bifidobacterium cultures, which help to maintain the balance of bacteria in the intestine.

"We’re learning more and more every day about the contributions of probiotics to a person’s overall health and well-being," said Dr. Mirjana Curic-Bawden, senior scientist for Chr. Hansen Inc. "From its role in enhancing immune function in healthy individuals to assisting the digestive process, these beneficial cultures can be a very valuable part of a healthy diet."

Breyers also has boosted the health benefits of its Light! Probiotics Plus Yogurt with the addition of vitamins A & D and calcium. It is offered in flavors such as strawberry cheesecake, key lime pie, black cherry jubilee and lemon chiffon, and contains 70% less sugar than the leading low-fat sweetened yogurt. An 8-oz cup of Breyers yogurt has 33% more yogurt per serving than other leading brands and only 110 calories or less.
