December egg product up 5% from 2009

WASHINGTON — The total amount of edible liquid product from shell eggs broken in December was 229,865,000 lbs, up 9% from November and up 5% from the previous year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report.

December production of edible whole eggs was 143,478,000 lbs, up 3% from December 2009; liquid whites were 57,393,000, up 8%; liquid yolks were 28,994,000 lbs, up 8%; and inedible product was 19,902,000 lbs, up 6%.

Edible liquid product produced during the January-December year was 2,684,556,000 lbs, up 3% from the previous year, the U.S.D.A. said. Liquid whole eggs totaled 1,700,970,000 lbs, up 3%; liquid whites were 657,092,000 lbs, up 5%; liquid yolks were 326,494,000 lbs, up 2%; and inedible product was 231,077,000 lbs, up 5%.

Shell eggs broken in December totaled 176,742,000 dozen, up 8% from November and up 5% from the previous year. Shell eggs broken in the January-December year totaled 2,071,607,000 dozen, up 4% from 2009.
