April egg products down 5% from 2010

WASHINGTON — The total amount of edible liquid product from shell eggs broken in April was 214,314,000 lbs, down 9% from March and down 5% from the previous year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report.

April production of edible liquid whole eggs was 133,943,000 lbs, down 5% from April 2010; liquid whites were 53,193,000 lbs, down 5%; liquid yolks were 27,178,000 lbs, down 3%; and inedible production was 18,538,000 lbs, down 4%.

Shell eggs broken in April totaled 163,922,000 dozen, down 9% from March and down 4% from the previous year.

January–April production of edible whole eggs was 536,844,000 lbs, up 1% from the previous year; whites were 222,199,000 lbs, up 8%; yolks were 114,927,000 lbs, up 11%; inedible was 76,162,000 lbs, up 3%; and total edible liquid was 873,970,000 lbs, up 4%.

Shell eggs broken in the January–April period was 669,104,000 dozen, up 4% from the same period of the previous year.
