April egg product output up 13% from 2007

WASHINGTON — The total amount of edible liquid product from shell eggs broken in April was 232,773,000 lbs, up 13% from a year ago and up 10% from March 2008, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Egg Products report (click here to read report).

April production of edible whole liquid eggs was 147,192,000 lbs, up 13% from April 2007; liquid whites were 55,780,000 lbs, also up 13%; and liquid yolks were 29,801,000 lbs, up 12%.

Inedible product from shell eggs broken in April totaled 20,434,000 lbs, up 10% from April 2007.

Shell eggs broken in April totaled 176,976,000 dozen, up 13% from April 2007 and up 9% from March 2008, the U.S.D.A. said.

Edible liquid product produced in the January-April period totaled 867,398,000 lbs, up 4% from the same period of the previous year, the U.S.D.A. said. Liquid whole eggs totaled 558,097,000 lbs, up 5% from a year ago; liquid whites were 201,440,000 lbs, up 3%; liquid yolks, 107,861,000 lbs, up 2%; and inedible product, 77,599,000 lbs, up 4%.

Shell eggs broken in the January-April period totaled 663,373,000 dozen, up 5% from a year ago.
