EFFINGHAM, S.C. — McCall Farms, a producer of fresh canned vegetables and fruits, has agreed to acquire the brands of Sager Creek Vegetable Co. from Del Monte Foods, Inc. Del Monte acquired the company in March 2015. The transaction will bring such retail and food service brands as Allens, Veg-all, Popeye, Princella, Freshlike and Trappey’s into McCall Farms’ fold. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“Leading brands like Allens fit perfectly with our heritage of making authentic, southern-style vegetables that can be served as a meal, side-dish or used as a key cooking ingredient,” said Woody Swink, co-president of McCall Farms. “The opportunity we have to expand the branded products we offer is made possible thanks to our employees. They are truly dedicated and passionate about McCall Farms being known as the preferred supplier for the highest quality vegetables available in retail and food service.”

Founded in 1838, McCall Farms operates out of a 1,000,000-square-foot facility and manufactures retail and food service products under four nationally distributed brands: Glory Foods, Margaret Holmes, Peanut Patch and Bruce’s Yams.

I have purchased Freshlike canned vegetables for years and years and have been very happy with them. Things are changing so fast in many businesses that I am worried that we will lose Freshlike. Please let me know if this brand is still available and where. Thank you. Patricia Buck Gonzales
