ELIZABETH, N.J. — Atalanta Corp., the largest privately held food importer in the United States, has acquired ANCO Fine Cheese, a business unit of Schratter Foods, Inc. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The All Nations Cheese Organization (ANCO) is one of the largest specialty cheese importers in the United States, sourcing its products from more than 20 countries. The company offers a wide range of products, including blue cheeses, fresh and white cheese, goat cheese, kosher cheese, stretched curd cheese, uncooked and pressed cheeses, rind cheeses, crackers, creams and desserts, butters, meats and seafood products.

The companies said they are looking forward to combining synergies to improve relationships with suppliers and customers.

“For decades, ANCO has been one of the most established importers of specialty cheese to the U.S.,” said Tom Gellert, president of Atalanta. “Together with Atalanta’s own rich history, we have a unique opportunity to solidify our position as leaders in the specialty cheese and deli categories.”

Founded in 1945, Atalanta specializes in the import of cheese, charcuterie, deli meat, grocery and seafood products.
