PURCHASE, N.Y. — Frito-Lay, a business unit of PepsiCo, Inc., is testing three flavors of Lay’s potato chips and letting voters decide which variety stays on shelves.

Flavors include chicken and waffles, cheesy garlic bread and Sriracha hot sauce. All three varieties will be available at retailers nationwide starting next week. Consumers may vote via text message and on the company’s Facebook and Twitter pages through May to determine the winning flavor. If the other flavors sell well, they may remain in stores, too, the company said.

The three flavors were among 3.8 million ideas submitted by consumers during the company’s on-line “Do Us a Flavor” campaign. Cash prizes will be awarded for the winning submissions.

Hi there! I live in Toronto, Canada and we have just started seeing Martin Short's commercial, inviting us to submit our recommendations for a new Lays potato chip flavour...offering the winner $50K + 1% share of sales on the selected flavour. Is this promotion SEPARATE from the US promotion? When is the deadline for Canadians to submit our flavour suggestions? Will the voting occur the same way as in the US, that is, Canadians must purchase the (three flavours) product and then vote on Facebook and Twitter as well? Will the winner be determined by the "sales of the three flavours" or by the Votes on FB & Twitter? Please let me know. Thanks! Diane
