Global flavors infuse new Swanson broths

CAMDEN, N.J. — Global flavors inspired the latest line of Swanson broths from the Campbell Soup Co.

Varieties include Mexican tortilla, featuring flavors of Monterey jack cheese, lime, cayenne pepper, cumin, toasted corn, jalapeno and paprika; Thai ginger, with flavors of soy sauce, cilantro, lemongrass, ginger, coconut and lime; and Chinese hot and sour, infused with flavors of soy sauce, cayenne pepper, onion, garlic and ginger.

“Swanson continues to innovate by expanding into the evolving space of exotic flavors and helping bring restaurant quality meals to the home,” said Dale Clemiss, vice-president of Simple Meals for Campbell North America. “Swanson Flavor Infused broths let passionate and inspired cooks unleash their creativity by preparing their favorite global cuisine while saving a few steps in the process.” 

Swanson Flavor Infused broths are available at grocery stores nationwide for a suggested retail price of $2.79 for a 32-oz. carton.

Unilever launches simple-label spreads

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. — In response to a growing demand for clean-label products, Unilever USA is introducing two spreads with simple ingredients.

Made with yogurt and a blend of canola oils, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Deliciously Simple and Country Crock Simply Delicious contain no artificial preservatives or flavors, hydrogenated oils or trans fats and have 70% less saturated fat than butter.

The products are available nationwide in 12-oz. tubs.

Dasani Sparkling debuts

ATLANTA — A line of zero-calorie sparkling water beverages debuts under the Dasani brand from the Coca-Cola Co. In lime, lemon, berry and apple varieties, Dasani Sparkling is unsweetened, lightly carbonated and infused with natural flavors.

The products will be available beginning in December with a national launch scheduled for February.

McDonald’s expands McWraps

OAK BROOK, ILL. — The McDonald’s Corp. has expanded its Premium McWrap platform with a Southwest Chicken variety, featuring crispy or grilled chicken glazed with a cilantro-lime sauce with tortilla strips, spring greens, tomatoes, shredded cheese and a habanero ranch sauce in a flour tortilla.

Other McWrap varieties include chicken and bacon, sweet chili chicken and chicken and ranch.

The Southwest Chicken McWrap will be available for a limited time.

StarKist adds ranch-flavored tuna

PITTSBURGH — StarKist Co. is expanding its line of single-serve tuna pouches with a ranch flavor. Seasoned with buttermilk and herbs, the product contains 80 calories per pouch. Other varieties of Tuna Creations include lemon pepper, sweet and spicy, herb and garlic and hickory smoked.

The products are available in grocery stores nationwide for a suggested retail price of $1.79.

Pepperidge Farm puffs up pastry portfolio

NORWALK, CONN. — Puff pastry cups debut from Pepperidge Farm, a division of the Campbell Soup Co.

The pre-formed, ready-to-bake cups join a lineup of puff pastry products that include sheets, shells and turnovers.

Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry Cups are available in the frozen section of retailers nationwide for a suggested retail price of $3.88 for a 24-count package.

Stacy’s Snacks introduces bakery flavors

PLANO, TEXAS — Inspired by bake shop flavors, a new line from Stacy’s Snacks, a PepsiCo, Inc. brand, features sweet and savory crisps sliced thin and baked twice for a crunchy texture.

Varieties include herbed baguette, pretzel bread, banana nut and vanilla pound cake.

Stacy’s Bake Shop Bakery Crisps are available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $4.29.

Siggi’s rolls out Icelandic-style yogurt tubes

NEW YORK — Marking its first foray into children’s products, Siggi’s Dairy, maker of Icelandic-style strained yogurts, is launching squeezable yogurt tubes in three flavors: strawberry, blueberry and raspberry. Each tube contains less sugar and twice as much protein as traditional children’s yogurts, with no artificial sweeteners, colors or preservatives.

“Added sugar in various forms is way too prevalent in children’s diets today, even in normally healthy items such as yogurt,” said Siggi Hilmarsson, founder of Siggi’s Dairy. “Siggi’s was founded on the principle of creating, authentic, healthy yogurts that are low in sugar and contain simple, no-nonsense, ingredients. We are thrilled to now add a much-needed kids' option to our lineup.”

The products are available nationwide.

Pringles rings in season

BATTLE CREEK, MICH. — Adding a sweet, seasonal twist to its Pringles portfolio, the Kellogg Co. is introducing pecan pie and cinnamon sugar varieties of the potato crisps for a limited time.

“Our survey found that for 48% of respondents, bringing pecan pie to a holiday party would make them a hero, so we’re excited to give them a convenient and delicious way to enjoy the seasonal flavor without worrying about the baking,” said Teresa Lindsey-Houston, marketing director for Pringles.

Available nationwide beginning in November, the new flavors follow the success of last year’s limited-edition holiday Pringles, which included pumpkin pie spice and white chocolate peppermint.

Smucker and Dunkin’ brew up bakery coffee flavors

ORRVILLE, OHIO — The J.M. Smucker Co. is rolling out bakery-inspired flavors of Dunkin’ Donuts packaged coffee.

The Dunkin’ Donuts Bakery Series features five varieties: blueberry muffin, caramel coffee cake, chocolate glazed donut, jelly donut and old-fashioned donut.

The products are available in grocery stores nationwide.

Cracker Barrel launches lunch meat for retail

LEBANON, TENN. — Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. is launching a line of retail products through its licensing agreement with John Morrell Food Group, a subsidiary of Smithfield Foods. CB Old Country Store products include maple and smoked bacon, spiral ham, oven-roasted turkey, smoked turkey, smoked ham and honey ham.

“Launching licensed food products under the new CB Old Country Store brand is an important component of our strategic plan,” said Sandra B. Quinoa chips to hit shelves

HOUSTON — Quinoa chips debut from Simply7 Snacks, a maker of better-for-you snacks that include lentil chips, pomegranate chips and hummus chips.

Available in sea salt, cheddar, barbecue and sour cream and onion flavors, Quinoa Chips are gluten-free, Non-G.M.O. Project-verified, vegetarian and kosher, with more than 8 grams of protein per serving and up to 50% less fat than potato chips. The products contain no additives or preservatives, artificial ingredients or flavors or trans-fat.

The products will be available in select grocery stores beginning in January for a suggested retail price of $2.50 to $3.49.

Thanasi unveils pumpkin seeds

BOULDER, COLO. — From its Bigs brand of roasted seeds, Thanasi Foods introduces lightly salted pumpkin seeds.

“After much experimentation, we found a truly remarkable combination of lightly salting and home-style roasting to bring out the real, delicious flavor of the pumpkin in every seed,” said Justin Havlick, president and founder of Thanasi Foods. “Our primary goal was to deliver home-roasted pumpkin seed taste every day of the year that consumers normally only get to enjoy in the fall.”

The launch marks the company’s first non-sunflower seed product in the Bigs line, which includes Heinz salt and vinegar, Vlasic dill pickle, Frank’s Red Hot buffalo wing, Hidden Valley Ranch and Old Bay Catch of the Day varieties of sunflower seeds.

The products will be available beginning in October.

The Better Chip rolls out

LOS ANGELES — Made from non-bioengineered corn masa and vegetables, The Better Chip from Fresh Gourmet L.L.C. is hitting shelves in select supermarkets nationwide. Gluten-free with all natural ingredients, the product line includes five varieties: jalapeno with sea salt, red peppers with salsa fresca, spinach and kale with sea salt, corn with sea salt and sweet onion with white cheddar. Two additional flavors will be introduced in 2014.

New multigrain chips from Lundberg Family Farms

RICHVALE, CALIF. — Lundberg Family Farms, producer of organic rice and rice products, is adding a line of multigrain rice chips in four flavors: Mendocino tomato and herb, Mojave jalapeno, Redwood smoky barbecue and Shasta chipotle lime. Made with organic brown rice and such ingredients as quinoa, amaranth, corn, millet, garbanzo beans, chia and flax seeds, the chips are whole-grain, gluten-free, kosher, vegan and non-bioengineered.

The products are available in supermarkets and natural food stores nationwide for a suggested retail price of $3.48 for a 6-oz. bag.
