KANSAS CITY — In a category as big as bars, food manufacturers are pursuing ways to pop on the shelf. Targeting current trends is one way to break away from the bar barrage.

The Hershey Co. is hoping its new Brookside Yogurt Flavored Fruit & Nut Bars will call to those seeking a clean label. The gluten-free bars contain no artificial flavors or bioengineered ingredients and are available in three flavors: cranberry blueberry with citrus, vanilla fig and mango pineapple.

Kind Snacks is seeking to stand out by bringing a method typically tied to the beverage category into bars. The company is launching Pressed by Kind, its first line of fruit bars made with fruit and chia or fruit and vegetables. The bars contain five ingredients or less, contain no added sugar and provide two full servings of fruit. The bars are dairy-free, vegan, gluten-free and come in five varieties: mango apple chia, pineapple coconut chia, pineapple banana kale spinach, apricot pear carrot beet, and cherry apple chia.

For consumers searching for superfoods in the crowded category, Achieve Superfoods, Inc. is launching SuperBar snack bars amped up with amaranth. The gluten-free bars are available in apricots and ginger, blueberries and vanilla, cherries and chocolate, and raisins and cinnamon varieties.
