Made from natural resources, either oat hulls or corn bran, functional fibers from Mundelein, Ill.-based Z-Trim Ingredients assist food formulators in keeping labels clean, short and consumer-friendly.

They also allow manufacturers to reduce fat and calories without changing the taste or mouthfeel of the finished product. According to the company, Z-Trim is used in meat and poultry products to improve yields and as an alternative to higher priced hydrocolloids.

The solution is also an allergen-free and gluten-free extender.
