PepsiCo chooses Pioneer as South African franchisee

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA — PepsiCo International on Wednesday signed an agreement with Pioneer Foods making the latter company Pepsi’s franchisee in the Republic of South Africa. Pioneer Foods is a South African food and beverage company.

Under terms of the agreement, Pioneer Foods’ beverage subsidiary, Ceres Fruit Juices, will bottle and distribute a range of PepsiCo soft drinks, including Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, 7-Up and Mirinda. The drinks will be manufactured in Ceres’ plant in Gauteng.

"This transaction adds further impetus to our vision of becoming a significant player in the South African beverage market," said Andre Hanekom, Pioneer Foods managing director. "We can now offer our clients a truly diversified choice of popular beverage brands from ready-to-drink fruit juice products and dilutables, to teas, coffees and carbonated soft drinks."
