ATLANTA — The Coca-Cola Co. has named Muhtar Kent president and chief operating officer, effective immediately. Mr. Kent will be responsible for all of the company’s worldwide operating units and will report to Neville Isdell, chairman and chief executive officer.
Mr. Kent worked for Coca-Cola from 1978 to 1999, returning in 2005. Starting in 1999, he was president and c.e.o. of Efes Beverage Group, one of Europe’s largest international beverage businesses.
Mr. Kent returned to Coca-Cola in May of 2005 as president and c.o.o. of the North Asia, Eurasia and Middle East Group, and was named president of Coca-Cola International in January.
Mr. Kent worked closely with Mr. Isdell for much of his career at Coca-Cola and their strong working relationship promises to lead the company to sustained growth, said Mr. Isdell.
"The board believes Neville and Muhtar have both a shared vision and a solid working relationship," said James D. Robinson III, chairman of the Board Committee on Directors and Corporate Governance. "They represent a strong team that will drive growth and shareholder value."
