CINCINNATI — The Sunny Delight Beverages Co. (S.D.B.C.) and ALPLA Inc., a supplier of plastic packaging, have signed a letter of agreement under which ALPLA will provide on-site bottle manufacturing for the Sunny Delight beverages manufactured at S.D.B.C.’s Sherman, Texas, plant. The agreement is part of the $70 million investment S.D.B.C. announced in December to purchase the Sherman site and to upgrade it and four other North American manufacturing sites and data systems.
“We are delighted that ALPLA will have a facility within our Sherman plant to produce all the bottles for the SunnyD made there,” said Ellen Iobst, senior vice-president of manufacturing and technology. “This will allow us to significantly reduce our freight costs, speed delivery time to customers, improve our manufacturing efficiency and further reduce our environmental footprint. ALPLA’s production will include Sunny Delight’s new consumer preferred, square gallon bottle, which consumers call ‘fridge friendly’ and which is easier to pour.”
Sunny Delight’s brands include SunnyD citrus punch, Fruit Simple smoothies, Fruit2O vitamin fortified flavored waters, Veryfine 100% fruit juices and juice drinks, Bossa Nova “superfruit” beverages, Elations dietary supplement for joint health and Crystal Light ready-to-drink bottled beverages.
