Cal-Maine Foods takes over egg producer, processor

JACKSON, MISS. — Cal-Maine Foods, Inc. will become the sole owner and operator of Green Forest Foods, L.L.C., on Jan. 27 after signing an agreement to buy the 50% interest in the company that is owned by Pier 44 Properties, L.L.C. Cal-Maine Foods and Pier 44 Properties jointly have owned and operated Green Forest Foods since January 2006.
Based in Green Forest, Ark., Green Forest Foods produces, processes and markets eggs from about 1 million laying hens. The eggs are marketed to retail food stores and food service distributors in the south central region of the United States.
Based in Jackson, Cal-Maine Foods primarily produces, grades, packs and sells fresh shell eggs, the majority of which are sold in about 30 states across the southwestern, southeastern, mid-western and mid-Atlantic regions of the United States.
