CHS income eases 12% in first quarter

ST. PAUL, MINN. — CHS Inc., a leading energy and grain-based foods company, posted earnings of $136.3 million for the first quarter ended Nov. 30, down 12% from $154.2 million for the same period in fiscal 2006. Sales were $3.8 billion, up from $3.5 billion in the first quarter of fiscal 2006. CHS said its earnings reflected solid performance within its energy, ag business and processing businesses. The company’s processing segment, which includes oilseed processing and a portion of Ventura Foods, L.L.C., generated earnings of $10.6 million in the period, up from $9.9 million.
