ALPHARETTA, GA. — Roughly doubling production capacity of refined peanut oil in the United States, Golden Peanut Co. L.L.C. has begun production at a new peanut oil refinery in Dawson, Ga.
The facility has been built adjacent to an existing peanut shelling and crushing plant. Shipments from the refinery are expected to begin in February.
Golden Peanut said the addition is aimed at helping the company keep pace with rising demand for peanut oil.
The company described peanut oil as a "heart healthy, highly stable, pleasant tasting oil" that has found new applications in food products.
Golden Peanut handles, processes and exports raw and processed peanuts and peanut derived ingredients, including peanut flour. The company is owned by Archer Daniels Midland Co., Decatur, Ill., and Alimenta USA.
