January sales rise steadily at McDonald's

OAK BROOK, ILL. — Comparable sales for McDonald’s restaurants worldwide increased 5% in January, compared with a 6% increase in the same month of last year. Global system-wide sales for McDonald’s restaurants rose 8%, or 6% in constant currencies.
U.S. comparable sales rose 4%, compared with 10% in 2006. U.S. sales were driven by extended hours, Snack Wraps and the continued strength of the breakfast business.
In Europe, comparable sales rose 7%, compared with a loss of nearly 1% in the same month last year. Sales were driven by strong performances in Russia and France, reflecting consumers’ appreciation for the segments core menu offerings and unique premium menu options.
In Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa, comparable sales rose 4%, following positive response to the addition of the MegaMac and McGriddles in Japan coupled with continued strength in Australia.
