KANSAS CITY — Armour Eckrich Branded Meats, a subsidiary of Smithfield Foods, Inc., will close its Kansas City processed meats facility Aug. 31. Production will be shifted to other processing plants.

"This was a difficult but necessary decision to shift production to other plants," said Michael Brown, president of Armour Eckrich. "However, the plant has been running substantially below capacity and losing money for several years and, after a thorough analysis, the economics dictate that we close the facility and consolidate production at other facilities."

Smithfield Foods acquired the Armour Eckrich brands this past October from ConAgra Foods, Inc.
