ST. LOUIS — Bunge North America said Thursday it will close its corn mill in Chatham, Ont., in mid-May.

Over the next several weeks, the company will use up remaining raw materials at the mill but will continue to ship finished product from the facility for several months, Bunge said.

"We made this decision based on changing market conditions that require more efficient production than is possible in Chatham due to the mill’s size and age," said Rodney Perry, vice-president and general manager of Bunge Milling. "We value the contribution our 18 full-time employees have made to Bunge and will be offering them to apply for open positions at our other locations."

In addition to Chatham, Bunge operates corn mills in Danville, Ill.; Atchison, Kas.; and Crete, Neb.
