Fast-food segment to add 13,000 new stores by 2011

WILTON, CONN. — Over the next five years, 13,000 new fast-food restaurants and 6,100 new fast-causal restaurants will open, according to the 2007 Retail Tenant Directory by Nielsen Trade Dimensions.

Additionally, 6,000 new coffee/juice bars will begin service and 5,800 new restaurants chains — which includes all restaurants not classified as fast food or fast casual — will open by 2011.

With 13,000 anticipated new stores opening, fast-food restaurants will open the most new stores compared with other categories. Overall, 5,400 U.S. retailers will open more than 94,000 new locations in the next five years.
