Cott considering merger with Cadbury

TORONTO — After speculation, Cott Corp. has confirmed it is in talks with Cadbury Schweppes regarding a possible merger in the beverage business.
"Following the recent announcement by Cadbury Schweppes P.L.C. regarding the separation of its confectionery and Americas Beverage business, Cott has responded to interested parties that have approached the company, and is exploring the potential benefits of participating in possible industry consolidation," Cott said in a statement. "The company is also consulting with outside legal and financial advisers."
Cott said the company’s board of directors is supportive of the talks, although no decision has been made yet.
Overall, the company said its goal is to grow its organic business and deliver profitable growth. Cott produces carbonated soft drinks, sparkling and flavored waters, energy drinks, sports drinks, juices, juice drinks and smoothies, ready-to-drink teas and other non-carbonated beverages.
