CINCINNATI — The Kroger Co. has reached an agreement with Supervalu to acquire 18 Scott’s Food & Pharmacy stores in Indiana.

"We are excited to welcome Scott’s customers and associates into our family of Kroger stores," said Robert Moeder, president of Kroger’s central division. "We look forward to continuing Scott’s tradition of great customer service as we expand Kroger in this market."

The 18 stores in northeast Indiana will be included in Kroger’s central division, which already operates 145 Kroger, Hilander, Owen’s and Pay Less stores in parts of Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri and Ohio.

The official transaction is on schedule to close later this year, and terms of the agreement have not been disclosed. Mr. Moeder said Kroger expects to offer continued employment to most Scott’s employees.

Kroger also will expand product offerings at the Scott’s stores by adding Kroger’s corporate products.
