TORONTO — SunOpta, Inc.’s Fruit Group has entered into an exclusive supply agreement with Zhejiang Yumberry Juice Co., Ltd. to market Yumberry juice concentrate in the United States. After one year, SunOpta also will market the concentrate in Canada. Yumberry, a native Chinese fruit harvested organically, contains antioxidants and a range of vitamins, including vitamin C, thiamine, riboflavin and carotene.
"We expect Yumberry to grow in popularity much like other high antioxidant fruits, such as acai and pomegranate, have in recent years," said Joseph Stern, executive vice-president of SunOpta Fruit Group.
Organic Yumberry juice has a sweet/tart balance that may stand alone or be mixed with other juices or flavors, according to SunOpta. It may be used in applications ranging from fruit juices to bakery applications, wines, cocktails and dairy products.
