WASHINGTON — A meeting with Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns will highlight an upcoming meeting of the American Bakers Association Commodity Task Force.

The two-day meeting will be held in Washington June 14-15 at A.B.A. headquarters.

Meeting topics with Mr. Johanns include issues surrounding the Conservation Reserve Program, wheat competitiveness, agricultural research and the renewal of the Trade Promotion Authority, which expires at the end of June.

"A.B.A. has developed a close working relationship with Secretary Johanns and key members of his staff," said task force chairman Dave Brown of Sara Lee Corp. "The task force is privileged to have the opportunity to sit down and discuss several critical issues the baking industry is actively monitoring within the 2007 Farm Bill and 110th congressional session."

Also featured on the A.B.A. program will be legislative updates by Kelly Knowles and Lee Sanders of the A.B.A. staff as well as by Jula Kinnaird of Capitol Management & Communications.

The guest speaker at a June 14 dinner at Tuscana West will be Representative Mark Kirk of Illinois, the co-chairman of the House Sugar Caucus.

The dinner will follow an afternoon on Capitol Hill in which bakers will meet with several members of Congress.
