COLUMBIA, S.C. — A partnership between Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co. and Dream Dinners was launched this week at a Columbia Piggly Wiggly supermarket.
Dream Dinners, a dinner assembly store concept, opened in the Piggly Wiggly, marking the first time the business has been introduced within a supermarket.
Opened in 2002, Dream Dinners is described by the company as "gourmet menus made easy." The company offers a diverse rotating monthly menu offering items such as beef tips with tomatoes, rosemary and egg noodles, pork chops with pecan pilaf and spaghetti with shrimp and rustic tomato sauce. Customers visit a Dream Dinners each month and choose from a variety of menu items. They assemble about a dozen meals from prepared meal components and then take the meals home to freeze and then cook as needed. The monthly Dream Dinners package includes 12 meals. Each of the meals feeds about six for a total cost of $200, or $3.50 per person per meal.
Currently, 260 Dream Dinners franchises are operated in 33 states.
Piggly Wiggly has more than 115 stores in the mid-Atlantic states.
Operating at Piggly Wiggly "provides customers a way to make shopping more efficient since they can purchase side dishes, as well as everyday household items, wine and flowers, all in the same trip," Dream Dinners said.
