PARIS — Groupe Danone has signed an agreement with Vialat S.A. to acquire 70% of its fresh dairy business in Chile.

Vialat produces and commercializes yogurts, cultivated milks, juices and more for the Chilean market, and the company is a subsidiary of the Bethia Group — a diversified family group with investments in various industries.

Under the agreement, Vialat will keep 30% of the business, and the closing of the transaction should occur before the end of June.

Danone has had a presence in Chile since 2006 when it began importing products such as Activia and Yogurisimo from Argentina, and this acquisition will help Danone offer an expanded range of products to consumers in Chile.

Chile has an annual per capita fresh dairy consumption of 7.5 kg compared with 13 kg in Argentina and 22 kg in Western Europe.
