NutraSweet, American Sugar form sweetener alliance

CHICAGO — The NutraSweet Co. and American Sugar Refining, Inc. have entered into an alliance to produce and distribute a line of new tabletop sweeteners in the United States, beginning with the re-launch of the NutraSweet tabletop brand. American Sugar owns the Domino brand of sugar products.
"With the power of the NutraSweet brand name and the sweetener experience of Domino, we will be positioned to become a major player in the billion dollar retail sweetener business," said Craig Petray, chief executive officer of NutraSweet.
Headquartered in Chicago, NutraSweet produces and markets sweeteners in more than 100 countries. Its sweeteners are used in more than 5,000 food and beverage products and are annually consumed by 250 million people worldwide.
Domino markets its products under the Domino and C&H sugar brands. It owns and operates sugar refineries in Yonkers, N.Y.; Baltimore; Chalmette, La.; Crockett, Calif.; and Toronto.
