Prestage Foods to invest $3.5 million in N.C. plant

ST. PAULS, N.C. — According to a story published by The Fayetteville Observer, Prestage Foods Inc., is planning to invest $3.5 million to expand its St. Pauls turkey processing plant, including the purchase of equipment. The expansion will add approximately 50 jobs to the current 733 employees, as the company makes room to expand its product lines.
According to the Observer’s report, Ken Windley, Robeson County manager, said the new jobs are a welcomed addition to the area.
"We’ve been working on this deal for a while," he said. "This is an important contribution to the county and to our economy."
Prestage Foods’ parent company, Prestage Farms, Clinton, N.C., produces turkeys and hogs in several states. The company purchased the St. Paul facility from Rocco Foods in 2000 and in 2005 opened the turkey processing facility and began processing turkeys under its own brand.
