THORNHILL, ONT. — A partnership between Dr. Eger-Olive Oil Products Industry Ltd. of Israel and Sana Food Marketing of Thornhill has created a patented vegetable shortening that is free of water, trans fat, saturated fats and any form of coloring or preservatives.
The product’s quality in terms of laboratory criteria may be maintained for five years at room temperature without any preservatives.
"Most important is that this process works with any type of vegetable or fish oil," said Sergio Zavarella of Sana Food. "It can also be made organic by using certified organic oil. We hope that with this new process we can help the food manufacturers provide consumers with a healthier product."
The partnership seeks to license co-packers to produce the product for distribution throughout North America. Sana Foods specializes in assisting manufacturers to develop and market unique food products that target the kosher, organic and ethnic food sector.
