MELVILLE, N.Y. — Hain Pure Protein Corp. (H.P.P.C.), a joint venture between The Hain Celestial Group and Pegasus Capital Advisors, acquired Plainville Turkey Farm Inc., Plainville N.Y., the largest turkey grower in the northeastern United States. The new company will operate as Plainville Farms L.L.C. Plainville Farms is the second holding within the H.P.P.C. division, joining FreeBird chicken, an organic chicken company headquartered in Fredericksburg, Penn., which was purchased in 2005.
Plainville Farms is a natural fit for H.P.P.C., said Irwin Simon, president and chief executive officer of Hain Celestial.
"Their commitment to family farms and all-natural antibiotic-free, vegetarian fed turkey production aligns perfectly our corporate philosophy and with the business model of our poultry brand, FreeBird chicken," he said.
Joining Plainville Farms as its chief operating officer is James Reed, a 30-year industry veteran from ConAgra Foods Inc., Empire Kosher Inc. and most recently, Cameco Inc. Mark Bitz will continue on as director for strategic planning.
