GAITHERSBURG, MD. — Mars, Inc. has created a new scientific division called Mars Botanical that will focus on research and product development involving flavanols. The new division will be headquartered in Rockville, Md.
"Mars Botanical will be solely focused on advancing flavanols and identifying opportunities to create innovative new plant-derived products aimed at improving health through ‘evidenced-based’ nutritional offerings," said Bruce Suezaki, general manager of the division. "The field of phytonutrients is still in its infancy and we believe the study of natural plant compounds such as flavanols holds tremendous promise for the future."
Research indicates consuming cocoa flavanols may provide a range of vascular benefits, from improving blood vessel function and reducing the tendency for blood clots to lowering high blood pressure.
