TULSA, OKLA. — QuikTrip Corp., a privately-owned gasoline/convenience store retailer with 483 stores in nine states, will open a new bakery in Belton, Mo., on Sept. 1.
Under the name QT Kitchens, the 100,000-square-foot bakery initially will produce 24 items, including donuts, muffins, rolls and cookies each day for the 74 QuikTrip stores in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
The plant, which will employ 100, has been in the planning stages for the past two years and follows a successful testing of the QT Kitchen program in Tulsa.
Tim Heuback, Kansas City division manager, said the decision to bring the bakery to Kansas City was a logical one.
"QT Kitchens produces more donuts and rolls than any other bakery in the Tulsa area, and we believe the same will hold true for Kansas City," Mr. Heuback said.
The bakery eventually will provide pastry products for QuikTrip stores in the St. Louis; Wichita, Kas.; Omaha, Neb.; and Des Moines, Iowa, markets.
