BOULDER, COLO. — Harvest Time Bread Co., a maker of all-natural artisan, organic and whole grain par baked bread and rolls for the retail and food service industry, recently introduced a line of all-natural and organic 8 grain bread containing omega-3s from Denomega Nutritional Oils.
The announcement makes Harvest Time the first company in the United States to offer Denomega’s omega-3 in a bread product.
"With all of the publicity about omega-3, we wanted to offer our customers the health benefits of omega-3, but we were concerned about taste," said John Gaches, president of Harvest Time. "When we crossed paths with Denomega, we were amazed that their oil had no taste or aroma. When we put it into our bread formulation, there was no impact on the taste or aroma of the bread. Now, the consumer can get the health benefits of omega-3 along with the health benefits of our multi-grain bread."
Denomega is a division of Borregaard Ingredients, Sarpsborg, Norway. In March, the company’s omega-3 was approved by Health Canada for use in most foods in Canada. The approval allows for use of the ingredient up to Health Canada’s general guidance limit at 100 mg combined DHA and EPA omega-3 per serving food.
