OAK BROOK, ILL. — Comparable sales for McDonald’s Corp. restaurants throughout the world increased 8.1% in August compared with 6% during the same month of last year. Global system-wide sales increased 12.3% in August, or 9.3% in constant currencies.

Comparable sales in August for U.S. restaurants were up 7.4%, which the company attributed to the ongoing strength of the company’s breakfast business, beverages and new food offerings.

"Our worldwide sales momentum continues, thanks to our customer-focused emphasis on menu variety and value, convenient service, innovative marketing and contemporary restaurants," said Jim Skinner, chief executive officer. "It is clear that customers are looking for a simple, easy and enjoyable restaurant experience, and we are pleased that more and more customers are finding that experience at McDonald’s."

There was also a 6.1% increase in comparable sales in Europe and a 12.4% increase in Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa.

Comparable sales represent sales at all McDonald’s restaurants in operation for at least 13 months, including those temporarily closed.
