OAK BROOK, ILL. — McDonald’s Corp. has named Ralph Alvarez, president and chief operating officer, to its board of directors. Mr. Alvarez, 52, takes the spot of Edward Brennan, who passed away in December.

"Ralph’s unique business perspectives and his in-depth knowledge of the global restaurant industry make him a highly valued addition to McDonald’s board of directors," said Andrew McKenna, chairman of the board. "He has an outstanding track record of results that will further enhance the effectiveness of the board."

Mr. Alvarez joined McDonald’s in 1994, serving as president of McDonald’s USA until 2006, when he was promoted to president of McDonald’s North America. He was named president and c.o.o. in August 2006.
