DUBLIN, OHIO — Same-store sales at Wendy’s International, Inc. fell 0.8% at company-owned stores but rose 0.2% at franchised locations in the fourth quarter ended Dec. 30. The company closed the year with a same-store sales decline of 1% in December.

"Although we made progress during the fourth quarter, I am not satisfied by our same-store sales results," said Kerrii Anderson, president and chief executive officer. "We are addressing this challenge in 2008 by concentrating more resources to grow the top line with new products, customer service initiatives and advertising."

In that vein, Ms. Anderson said Wendy’s will kick of 2008 with a new 99c Stack Attack double cheeseburger, a move she said gives customers "more value and more choices at a time when gasoline prices remain high and they may be experiencing continued financial pressures."

The company also plans to promote its new breakfast menu in certain markets.

Wendy’s will announce its full-year results on Feb. 4.
