NEWARK, DEL. — The Produce Marketing Association has named Dr. Robert Whitaker the association’s first chief scientific officer. In this position, he will direct the creation of the P.M.A.’s new science-based programs and services.
"We created this position as an investment in the future, so we are naturally thrilled to have Bob help create and implement the critical programs, not just in food safety but also in a range of other science and technology areas that will fundamentally change this business in the years to come," said Bryan Silbermann, P.M.A. president. "His expertise in science and innovation will help strengthen the entire global supply chain."
Mr. Whitaker has worked in the produce and agricultural industries since 1982 and was most recently vice-president of the product development and innovation program at NewStar Fresh Foods L.L.C. He also has been president of NewStar’s salad production company, MissionStar Processing L.L.C.
